The world leaders in broadband technology and services were celebrated tonight as the winners of the Broadband InfoVision Awards 2011 were presented.

“Each year the standard of entries never fails to impress and this year the judges had a truly global shortlist to work through from all areas of the broadband community.”

Huawei were the big winners of the night going home with three awards, while Vietnam Posts & Telecommunications Group secured the Changing Lives Award for its rural broadband project – Broadband Garden. Other winners included ZTE Corporation, YTL Communications, ASSIA, Alcatel-Lucent, PCCW Media and Freescale.

70% of Kelantan will be covered by YTL Yes 4G

KOTA BAHARU, Aug 16 (Bernama) — About 70 percent areas in Kelantan will get faster broadband service when all technical work being undertaken is completed soon.

Chairman of Information, Information Development, Science and Technology Committee, Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the broadband operating or wifi system project is undertaken by Infra Quest Sdn Bhd in cooperation with YTL Comunication Bhd.

“When all the technical work is completed, we expect about 70 percent areas in Kelantan to be covered with broadband internet system,” he told reporters here today.

YTL Yes 4G expects 400,000 subscribers by December 2011

PETALING JAYA: YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTL Comms), a unit of YTL Power Bhd, expects to have 400,000 subscribers for its 4G mobile Internet-with-voice service. Yes is expected to hit 400,000 subscribers by year-end.

To date, the company has about 300,000 subscribers since it launched the service last November.

Chief executive officer Wing K. Lee said the company’s plan to launch its network to the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia next month should help in achieving the target.

“We are confident that by the end of this year we will have about 400,000 subscribers,” he said.

YTL Comms selling Yes 4G at Senheng

Puchong, Malaysia – YTL Communications Sdn Bhd and Senheng have officially entered a partnership whereby Yes services will be available at over 100 Senheng and SenQ outlets in Peninsular Malaysia. Yes products will be sold at these outlets. With over 300,000 active accounts currently on Yes 4G networks, and over 60% of coverage in Peninsular Malaysia, YTL Communications is looking to expand its market presence by making their products available at both, Senheng and SenQ outlets.

YTL Yes signs Wimax2 agreement with UQ Comms

KUCHING: YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTL Communications) to further enhance both entities’ leadership positions in the 4G space and the development of next-generation WiMAX technologies signed an agreement with UQ Communications, Japan’s leading WiMAX broadband service provider.

“Amongst 4G standards, WiMAX is the most matured and widely adopted in the world.

The signing marks the next phase in its advancement to propagate the adoption of next-generation WiMAX technologies and to foster the development of 4G ecosystems in Malaysia and beyond,” said its chief executive officer Wing K Lee in a press statement yesterday.

YTL Yes expects subscribers to double to 400,000 by end 2011

YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTL Comms), a unit of YTL Power Bhd, believes it is only a matter of time before it becomes the clear leader among its WiMAX peers.

Within six months of operations, YTL Comms has signed up more than 200,000 subscribers, a number which took the market leader Packet One Networks (M) Sdn Bhd (or also known as P1) about two years to achieve.

“By end of this year, we see our subscriber base easily doubled from the 200,000 that we have now,” said YTL Comms chief executive officer Wing Lee in an interview with Business Times recently.

YTL Yes signs MOU with UQ Communications of Japan

UQ Communications has revealed that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysian WiMAX operator YTL Communications to increase collaboration. Under the MoU, UQ and YTL plan to work together on business and technical aspects with the aim of creating a stronger WiMAX ecosystem.


YTL YES introduces Yes Life app for iPad and iPod

KUALA LUMPUR: YTL Communications has unveiled Yes Life, an application that lets you make calls and send SMSes from your Apple iOS device.

With Yes Life, the company said users can transform the iPad and iPod touch into a mobile phone to make calls and send text messages with a Yes 018 local mobile number.

Yes Life can be used on the iPhone as well. In this case, your iPhone will have two phone numbers running at the same time – Yes (018) and the number that is on your mobile SIM card.

YTL YEs to deploy 4G network on UTAR campus in Kampar, Perak

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) joined YTL Communications Sdn Bhd (YTL Comms)’s Education Partner Program (EPP) today and signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to jointly deploy a campus-wide 4G network at the UTAR flagship campus in Kampar, Perak. Subsequently, similar deployments will be carried out at all UTAR campuses at Setapak, Sungai Long, and Petaling Jaya.

This marks another major milestone in the extensive EPP project spearheaded by YTL Comms to bring 4G converged service, offering data, voice and mobility to all public and main private universities in Malaysia.  UTAR is the first private university to join EPP with UTM as the first public institution of higher learning we signed up earlier.

“We believe that being part of EPP will transform the way of life on our campuses. 4G Mobile Internet will provide new levels of interactivity among students and faculty personnel. Also, being a university that delves in extensive research work we are happy with the new innovative functions and capabilities our researchers will have access to with 4G Mobile Internet,” said Ir. YTL Yes expected to be assigned 2.6G LTE spectrum block for 4G

(PETALING JAYA) The nine telecom operators that were supposed to be assigned a block each of the 2.6G LTE (Long Term Evolution) spectrum or 4G spectrum have re-submitted their business plans to the industry regulator and this, according to specialists, would eventually pave the way for a possible consolidation of the mobile/wireless players, The Star newspaper reported yesterday.

Sources told the paper that the regulator met the firms on a one-on-one basis early this month and asked them to revise and re-submit their plans.
